The Highest Reward

Is there a mystical ‘combination lock’ that we have the power to unlock? A combination lock that once opened would yield life’s highest pleasures? I say yes.

THE GENES REWARD THE BODY
The body has a natural reward system for action it deems are valuable for survival.

Eating is rewarded with fullness vs hunger.
Drinking is rewarded with satisfaction vs thirst.
Sex is rewarded with orgasm vs. frustration.

SPIRIT REWARDS THE SOUL
Is it possible that the Soul also has a reward system for spiritual progress?

It has been my experience that through focused meditation, pleasurable sensations arise in the body that I have not felt at any other time. Similar sensations also arise when I’m having a deep philosophical conversation and I arrive at certain points that ‘feel’ right. Its as if what I’m saying is ‘true’ because I’m rewarded for the sensations when I say them.

I do not claim any Ego credit for any ‘esoteric truth’. I am simply stating that I feel something of a higher reward in meditation or in discussing deeply spiritual topics and this leads me to believe there must be a spiritual reward for spiritual activities in much the same way there is a physical reward for specific physiological activities; for each ‘right’ number on the combination lock – you are rewarded. Now I’m not saying there is any specific ‘rightness’ which you can lay claim to – I’m simply saying that these sensations might serve as a spiritual guidance system that you are on the right track.

It has been my experience that the spiritual rewards though brief, in terms of quality far outweigh any physiological rewards I have experienced in being full, being satisfied or even having orgasms. (And the universe knows I’ve had my fair share of all of them.)

If there is indeed a path and it is lined with spiritual rewards, it stands to reason that the more we focus on being on that path the more we’ll experience these higher rewards. With regular focus it might be possible to experience a growing intensity and frequency that could soon occupy every waking moment. If this were possible, I could imagine nothing more delicious.

   Yep! i agree with james, when unversal truths hit us, one feels one’s reverberations in sync with that of the wider cosmos.
